!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!! – obviously

Now that the third movie has wrapped up, we’re left with more questions than answers…well, maybe not since a lot of things have been answered.  Well, not really, but kinda, sorta.  There are quite a few theories floating around, and before I go searching the web and reading the thoughts and theories of other people, I’m going put out my own, so as not to be influenced by the thoughts of others.   Here’s mine:

TCP (The Cloverfield Paradox) starts off with a crew of 7 astronauts/scientists.  Ava, Kiel, Schmidt, Monk, Mundy, Volkov and Tam.  Before we get into this, I’m a stickler for connecting actors to some of their other movies that I’ve seen.  Mundy (Chris O’ Dowd) was in Bridesmaids, Schmidt (Daniel Bruhl) played Baron Zemo in Captain America: Winter Soldier, Mina Jensen (Elizabeth Debicki) was Ayesha, the golden chick, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Tam (Zhang Ziyi) was in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Rush Hour 2 and House of Flying Daggers, apparently she’s also going to be in the new Godzilla movie as well!

With that out the way Ava’s character still harbors guilt and sadness for the death of her 2 kids, that she and her husband/boyfriend (idk if they’re married or not) lost.  She’s the only one who we’re really given some degree of a backstory on.  The crew is tasked with creating a new form of energy (apparently the earth in this reality is going through some form of massive energy loss that’s never explained).  It’s 2028 and the crew aboard the Cloverfield Station have been up in space for a couple years now and some change.  The SPA (Shepard Particle Accelerator) has constantly been failing the entire time they’ve been there.  They finally manage to get the SPA to work, but things get completely thrown out of wack.

They originally believe the SPA completely moved the earth somewhere, but, in fact, they’ve managed to move the Cloverfield Station…TO A PARALLEL DIMENSION!  I’m not going to go any further with the story because this is my theory on the Cloverfield franchise, not necessarily a plot summary about The Cloverfield Paradox.

With the Cloverfield Station from, let’s just call it Earth 1, now in the space of Earth 2 weird things are now happening on Earth 1.  Something is attacking Earth 1.  Initially you don’t know if it’s aliens (from 10 Cloverfield Lane), another “clover monster” or something completely different because Earth 1 from TCP was said to be on the brink of a World War, so it could’ve been Russia or some shit.  To add, the events of TCP was set in the UK, not America.  But humans attacking the city is quickly debunked when we see Ava’s husband pull over and approach a destroyed building and you can see the silhouette of something HUGE moving behind the smoke.  A large creature is essentially confirmed from this.

Back on the Cloverfield Station in Earth 2 apparently the laws of physics/science is being compromised.  A woman is found literally inside a wall of the space station (Mina Jensen) with wires and pipes going through her body.  Said wall swallows Mundy’s right arm and severs it as he’s repairing the wall after removing Mina from it, but he feels no pain.  The arm becomes sentient.  The worms, kept on the space station, are missing and end up in Volkov’s body along with the station’s missing gyro-compass ALONG with Volkov being afflicted with thoughts of the Volkov from Earth 2 (Earth 2 Volkov was a spy for Russia).   Volkov basically gets super, super unlucky with the merging of the 2 different realities.  Mundy later dies doing repairs after the room he’s in randomly becomes magnetized, pulling a flammable canister into a wall and exploding.  Tam is later frozen after the room she’s doing repairs in randomly floods with water with the outside hatch of the room breaking open instantly freezing the water upon contact with space.  Laws of science be damned!

Without spoiling anymore of the movie, essentially Cloverfield Station from Earth 1, just its presence in Universe 2 or Dimension 2 alone, is messing things up.  Long story short-ish, the concept of the multi-verse and seeing how a GARGANTUAN clover monster (it’s MASSIVE) suddenly appears on Earth 1 after the dimensional rift is open lends credence to the “fact” that the baby clover monster from the first movie came from another dimension, not necessarily another planet, but another dimension altogether.  The earth from Cloverfield could have been completely inhabited by clover monsters in a parallel existence and that rift from 2028 could have been unstable af and opened a rift in the past as well, back in 2008!  Let that sink in.  The rift opened by the Shepard Particle Accelerator plausibly opened rifts in alternate realities and in different points of time!  That means past, present AND future!  This makes the franchise rich with possibilities, on some Back to the Future ish.

Remember the ending of 10 Cloverfield Lane?  The dimensional rift could have opened windows in multiple realities in multiple points in time.  So not only a window was opened to the clover monster dimension, but also a rift to dimensions where those aliens came from as well.  Or how about this, the aliens from 10 Cloverfield Lane took over the earth from that dimension in their future and the rift placed them in the past of the planet that they eventually already took over.  OR how about the aliens from 10 Cloverfield Lane are from the future of an earth not even referenced throughout the 4 earths from the 3 movies.  4 earths, you say?  I know you may be thinking, “…but there’s only 2, the same earth from Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Land and The Cloverfield Paradox and the alternate earth from The Cloverfield Paradox.”  Oh, but check this out, what if the earth from Cloverfield is in a different dimension from 10 Cloverfield Lane and what if that earth is in a different dimension from The Cloverfield Paradox!?  Keep in mind that TCP is in 2028, I’d say the technology is a good bit more advanced than what would be possible in 20 years from the original Cloverfield movie.  Now that I’m thinking about it, what’s up with the number 8?  2008 was the original movie, The Cloverfield Paradox came out this year, in 2018, and the year in that movie takes place in 2028…

So, to wrap up, as you can see the possible theories are so much fun to think about.  I know leaving things open ended doesn’t sit well with some people.  It depends for me, but I really don’t mind certain movies leaving things open to question or leaving things not fully answered especially when the 4th movie, Overlord, is slated to come out this year as well.
